The in-person setup that makes draft day an event again, plus how to pull in the two or three who can't be in the room so they're really part of it.
An in-person draft is about the draft. But it's about so much more than the draft. It's the one day a year the whole crew is actually in the same room. A board up on the big screen, every pick called out loud, food and drinks going, and the entire room turning on the guy who just made the worst pick of the night. Eleven people groan at once and you feel it in the floor. That's the part you can't get online, and it's the best day of the season.
Of course, you can't always get everyone in the same room. For the two or three who can't make it, don't settle for a silent login. Bring them in on a video call so you can see their faces and hear their voice. They're in the room, just on a screen. Here's exactly how to set it up.
The way we actually run it. No Present link needed, just HDMI, Extend, and Share Screen.
Over HDMI the board's audio comes out of the TV. Point your laptop mic at the room so remote guys hear the board and the trash talk. Want the remote voices on your laptop instead of the TV? Set the Speaker inside Zoom's audio settings to your laptop. Do a quick 5-minute practice run first to dial in the sound.
You've got three ways to do this. Pick whichever is easiest for your setup.
Option 1: HDMI cable (most reliable). Plug your laptop into the TV, set your display to Extend (not Mirror), and drag the Prime Draft Pro window onto the big screen. The board lives on the TV and your laptop stays free for the video call. Just make sure your cable is long enough to reach.
Option 2: Streaming (no cable). On the same wifi, cast the board to your TV. Google Chrome can cast a tab to a Chromecast, and Apple devices can AirPlay to an Apple TV. Cast just the board tab so your laptop stays free for the call.
No smart TV? A streaming device fixes that. Plug an Apple TV, Amazon Fire Stick, or Roku into any TV's HDMI port and you've got a wireless way to get the board on the big screen, no cable running across the room.
Option 3: Run the draft right on your TV. If your TV runs Google TV, Android TV, or Fire TV, install the free Browser app from the Play Store (Samsung and LG have a built-in browser; Roku has none). Open Prime Draft Pro, log into your account, and draft using the TV remote or a keyboard connected to the TV. Everything happens on the big screen, no laptop needed. Zoom out until all 12 teams fit; some browsers can't scale and the board gets cut off, but Browser handles it perfectly. Works best with a keyboard, since pecking out player names with a remote is slow.
Option 4: Draft from your laptop, show the board on your TV. On your laptop or iPad, open your draft and hit the green Present button. You'll get a short code and a link like primedraftpro.com/SC9C58. On the TV, open a browser and type that address (the code goes on the end), and the live board fills the screen while you keep drafting from your laptop. That same Present link and QR are how anyone at home watches too, more on that in Step 2.
The two or three who can't be there don't get a silent login. They get the live board on their own screen and a seat on the call, so they're really at the table, not just a name on a list.
Before you draft. A few days out, or even a couple hours ahead, hit Present on your draft to grab your board link and QR, and set up your video-call link. Email or text both to everyone who can't attend, along with the start time, and a heads up that the call may cut off after 40 to 60 minutes so they just rejoin the same link. They show up ready instead of scrambling.
On draft day, two things run side by side.
The call, for faces and voices. Start your video call (Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, or Discord) and turn your camera on so they can see the room. This part is for seeing each other and hearing the trash talk, not for the board. Run it on your laptop, or in another tab, since you've already got the draft open.
The board. Two ways to get it to them. Best: send the Present link, or have them scan the QR, and the live board shows up crisp on their own screen, in sync with the room. On first load they tap "Enable Audio" once and they'll hear every pick called. Simpler: just share your screen through the call, since Zoom, Meet, and Teams all do screen share, so they see the board right in the call window with no separate link. The link is sharper; the screen-share is one less thing to send.
When the call cuts off. Free calls stop at 40 minutes (Zoom) or 60 (Meet and Teams). The trick: use a scheduled or reusable link, not an instant meeting. When the timer's up, everyone leaves and rejoins the same link, about 30 seconds, and it resets for another round. Repeat as many times as you need. The board link never cuts off, so their board stays put, only the call needs the quick rejoin.
Start the board and let it rip. Prime Draft Pro runs the clock, calls every pick out loud, and reacts as the board fills in, so the room feels it and everyone on the call hears it. You run the draft, and everyone else just watches the big screen and yells.
